NEWSLETTER - 2008

Dear All

Itfs been a very busy but wonderful term. All of the Intensives were extremely popular and worthwhile. There has been a great deal of follow-up interest in all of the intensives so please read the Class information carefully.

  • The Portrait and figure drawing was fabulous and we are considering adding it to our list of weekly classes please note your interest below.
  • We will probably hold two classes in Daylesford in Jan/Feb 2009 the class this year was considered by all to be great fun and very informative.
  • The Introductory week with Fiona was super and the participants have continued through the term on Wednesday afternoons, this time slot will now revert to the weekly Drawing Class and the artists are ready and welcome to come into any of the other classes including staying on in the drawing class.
  • After Steph searched the state for quinces (a bit too early) she managed to find some fine specimens with gattitudeh and the students had a lovely weekend.
  • The large format weekend has been rescheduled for the 3rd and 4th May, still places available.

    Please bring paintings or scanned images in by 18th April for selection. Works selected by the Trust will be scanned by the trust at their expense. We must have as many gMasterpiecesh as possible so please gfindf something.

  • The Art of Botanical Illustration ? Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne ? Opening 7th November.
  • THE Celia Rosser Gallery and cafe? Promontory Road, Fish Creek, every Friday- Monday 10AM ? 4PM.Congratulations Celia, I believe it is wonderful!
  • Maria Sibylla Merian ? in Amsterdam till 18th May www.rembranthuis.nl for details this will be a fantastic chance if you are in Holland.
  • This Merian exhibition is then moving to the Getty Museum ? opening June 10th. I have been invited to give a painting demonstration and two Gallery walks. I am actually visiting the exhibition in Amsterdam on my way to the official opening of the Dr Shirley Sherwood Gallery in Kew and teaching at the Chelsea Physic Garden in London. Dr Sherwoodfs new gallery is next to the Marian North Gallery and will exhibit works from her extensive collection of contemporary works and from the Kew collection. What a wonderful concept I will report on the opening in my next Newsletter.

    TRAVELS

    I am about to depart on a fabulous trip via Japan (in time to see the cherry blossom) with a demonstration to the Japanese students of Noriko Hasegawa, many of whom you have met at the International intensives in Melbourne or Daylesford it is being held in very famous Japanese teaching restaurant gKihachifsh. I am also catching up with my son Murray in Tokyo and then Osaka. Then off to Europe as above. The trip to The Getty follows in June and then off to the launch of the first volume of the Highgrove Florilegium in July plenty of air miles this year, but quick trips as I need to paint.

  • Large format - Steph Goss May 3rd & 4th - $165 including GST.A great way to explore and learn about the characteristics of watercolour while producing an excitingly large painting.
  • Beetles Bugs and Butterflies ? Delores Maloney May 17th & 18th - $165 including GST. This will be an informative weekend learning the fundamental knowledge needed to depict the insect world in pencil and paint ..
  • Intensive with Jenny Phillips - 7th ? 11th July - $550 including GST.
